BRACKETS

HARDWARE AND FASTENERS | FALL 2020

Drawings: pencil, rhino, adobe illustrator

Fabrication: 16 gauge metal sheet

From concept drawings to the final product, a 16 gauge steel sheet was fabricated into a pair of shelf brackets. A plasma cutter was used to cut the metal sheet. Instead of wielding parts of the brackets together, a finger brake was used to bend the flat brackets into shape. To allow for a smooth bend, perforations were made on the brackets. Experiments were carried out with chipboard prototypes to create a step-by-step process to bend the brackets in the finger brake.

After removing the slag, the brackets were polished and bent into shape. They were then given a copper plate coating.
