STUDENT CENTER REIMAGINED
RECENTERING THE STUDENT CENTER | FALL 2018

Drawings: rhino, adobe illustrator, color pencil
Model: butter board, foam, clay, basswood
The project was a collaborative opportunity to explore all aspects of design from programming to furnishing, ultimately reimagining the transition of the temporary dining hall into a student center at Bennington College. Students from diverse majors collaborated to produce the final plan for the renovation of the center. After initial weeks of surveying the college community for opinions and suggestions, the project went through a number of iterations.
Paired with a classmate, I was in charge of creating a base floor plan and a digital model for the team. Sections were produced using the model. Providing inputs during the layout planning of the interior, my teammate and I modelled a physical version of the updated digital model. After gathering sufficient furnishing precedents for the student center, the proposed spaces were divided among team members, with each team of two furnishing a particular space. The proposal was successfully passed by the school board and handed over to the architects in charge of renovating the center, on the basis of which the student center is being designed.
