In an attempt to address annual flooding in Banke, Nepal, this project aims to provide temporary shelter to displaced people in the area, while creating a community space for locals during the dry season. Many residents live in temporary structures made of mud and stones which break away during four months of flooding. This center is an effort to introduce bamboo as a durable, alternative building material into the local community.

Research and early design phases were under the supervision of Mr. Sanjeev Hada, Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS). Surveys from community organization reports and NRCS flood reports determined programming in the center. The community center houses up to 60 displaced families.

During the dry season, the building becomes a hub for community empowerment activities, skill-building, and vocational training, with regular programs that address gender violence in the community. Currently, many of these activities take place in temporary locations around the area.
